RSUST VC Gets Nomination For Int’l Award
Vice Chancellor of the
Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Port Harcourt, Professor Blessing Didia has been nominated for International Award.
Making the nomination recently, during a courtesy visit on the Vice Chancellor, a group, Niger Delta Peace Movement Initiative (NDPMI), said it was in recognition of Professor Didia’s restoration of peace in the university.
Speaking on behalf of the body during a courtesy visit, its National Coordinator, Peter Akpati, stated that NDPMI had closely followed the progress of the Vice Chancellor since his appointment, hence, the body saw him worthy of such an award.
“As a peace loving organisation, we have closely followed your progress in all aspects of developing the RSUST, especially in terms of restoration of peace and stabilising the university.
Having noted your step-by-step development, which we believe was instrumental to you being made the substantive VC, we believe you deserve an international award to not only spur you to do more, but also set a standard to beat”, Akpati said.
The NDPMI helmsman further expressed satisfaction that beyond the developments recorded by Professor Didia, he has also instituted the best welfare scheme for staff in the history of the university.
He also used the fora to laud the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, and the university community for the elevation of Professor Didia to a substantive status, and prayed that the existing cordial relationship continued.
“When there is cordial relationship among staff of a university such as ours, there is nothing we set our mind on that we cannot achieve in terms of development”, he said.
In his response, Professor Didia described his appointment and elevation as an act of God, through the Governor, with the support and cooperation of all stakeholders in the university.
“I regard my elevation as a call for me to be more dedicated in my service to the state. But I cannot do it alone. All of us must contribute our bit to build a united and progressive Rivers State”, he said.
