Group Urges Youth To Embrace Education
Ahead of the 2016 re-run
elections in Rivers State, an Abua-based socio-cultural group, Edogh-Abuan Development Association has urged Abua/Odual youths to take their education seriously and shun social vices such as cultism, kidnapping and electoral violence, saying education holds the key to any meaningful development both for individuals and the society in general.
The call was made by the group’s President, Dr Ela George at the launching of the translated version of the Bible Book of Proverbs into Abua language recently in Port Harcourt. While commending the Abua Language Development and Literacy Project Committee for a job well done, Edogh Abuan equally urged parents and guardians to encourage their wards to read the Book of Proverbs especially the Abua language translation, noting that the book contained timeless advice that could spur the youth to greatness in life while at the same time exposing the vanity of illegally-acquired wealth, violence and other social evils.
Dr Ela used the occasion to appeal to the Abual Odual/Local Government Council, the traditional institution and other well meaning indigenes of Abua Kingdom at home and abroad to support the Abua Language Development and Literacy project to achieve its set objectives and prevent the Abua language from going into extinction.
Also speaking at the event, the pioneer administrator of the Abua/Odual LGA and currently chairman of the Abua Language Development and Literacy Project Committee, Deacon Arugu, enjoined all Abuans to take advantage of the translated version of the Book of Proverbs to deepen their understanding of the Abua language.
Deacon Arugu also praised Edogh Abuan for its commitment to the peace and development of the area.
