Supreme Court’s Verdict Has Restored Power To Rivers People – Tam-George
The Rivers Commissioner for Information and Communications, Dr Austin Tam-George, has said that the Supreme Court verdict that upheld the election of Chief Nyesom Wike, a justification that sovernity belong to the people.
Tam-George stated this at secretariat of the Rivers State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists while briefing journalists on the development in the state.
The commissioner said, today, the mandate and democratic liberties of the people have been upheld. On behalf of the Rivers State Governor, I salute the courage of the people of Rivers State.
I, also commend the Supreme Court for yielding to the tenents of democracy by upholding the popular mandate delivered to Governor Wike in 2015 governorship election by the people of Rivers State.
The commissioner also called on Rivers people to be vigilant against reactionary politicians that seem determined to roll back the gains made so far by the Wike’s administration.
He pointed out that Rivers State was still reeling from the catastrophic legacy of the Chibuike Amaechi years that left the state with the most abandoned projects in the history of the state, despite receiving over N3 trillion.
He said the Amaechi administration improverished workers and pensioners and vacated office without giving his stewardship.
The commissioner, further disclosed that the Wike administration has rekindled the faith of the people in government through the rejuvenation of the breached public trust..
Tam-George, who described the people of Rivers State as the driving force of governance in the Wike government, said the present administration will remain responsive and committed to its social contract with the Rivers people.
He, therefore, called on all Rivers people to continue to give their support to the Wike administration to enable him succeed.
