100 Days: ‘Wike’s Strides, Real’
The 100 days achievements of the present administration in Port Harcourt and other local government areas of Rivers State are not being exaggerated or embellished but the true picture of reality on ground in the state.
The Mayor of Port Harcourt, Barrister Clifford Oparaodu ,who stated this when members of Civil Society Platform and Coalition of Civil Society Organizations, Rivers state Chapter, paid him a courtesy call in his office, in Port Harcourt, noted that Governor Nyesom Wike’s achievements cut across all the local government areas despite the fact that the governor met an empty treasury when he took over the mantle of leadership of the state.
Oparaodu noted that Wike’s achievements did not surprise him because the governor has since desired to develop the state and his people through better governance.
The council boss noted that the present government settled over N900million arrears owed Rivers State students abroad, billions of Naira three months’ salaries for civil servants and pensioners’ arrears of five months’ salaries were cleared, in addition to the rapid road maintenance across the state, completion of law faculty of Rivers State University of Science and Technology, donation of 64 patrol vehicles to the Nigerian Police Force, and bus to the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), many others.
The mayor commended the governor for commissioning the Eagle/Illoabuch Road, noting that the completion of that road has reduced traffic along Agip/Ada George Road.
Earlier, the Group leader of the Civil Society Platform, Rivers State Chapter, Dr Emmanuel Nkweke, said they came to felicitate with the state government through the local government over the achievements of the present administration in its 100 days in office.
Nkweke said they were satisfied with the leadership quality of Governor Nyesom Wike, because he has started fulfilling some of his campaign promises.
According to him, ‘’the road maintenance across the state should not be referred as ‘Operation Zero Pot-Holes’ but ’Operation Rapid Road Maintenance’.
He, however, said they were ready to partner with the council on security, and sensitization on the impending flood in the state as predicted by Nigerian Meteorological Agency.
