Reps To Invite Foreign Auditor Over NNPC’s Accounts

pers (PWC), the foreign firm that audited the accounts of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) may be invited by the House of Representatives to give more explanation on the report it submitted recently to President Goodluck Jonathan over alleged missing fund in the corporation.
The House Committee Chairman on Public Accounts, Hon. Solomon Adeola gave this indication following his announcement that the firm has some explanations to make on its report that indicted the corporation for $20 billion missing from the corporation’s account.
Adeola who spoke at a town hall meeting in Lagos, said the Auditor-General of the Federation, Mr. Ukura Samuel who commented on the report has no locus standi to do that saying he was not the one that appointed PWC in the first place.
He said Samuel would not have been privy to the terms of reference and rules of engagement given to the external auditing firm.
Adeola said, what the Auditor-General gave to the public in his press conference was a summarized version of the report and not the full report. “We in the House Committee will be requesting for the full report”, he said, remarking that the firm was appointed by the Ministry of finance and not the Auditor-General”.
The Committee Chairman specifically stated that as far as the House is concerned, the report raised more questions than answers to the missing fund, insisting that there was every need for the committee to request for a full report.
According to him, the House needs to know the details of how out of $20 billion, the NNPC was only indicted for $1.48 billion, noting that Nigerians would want to know what happened to the huge balance of $18.52 billion.
“One is not surprised that the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, has quickly ordered payment of the acknowledge missing $1.48 billion”, he said, interpreting the minister’s action as an easy was to bury the issue.
