Airtel Extends Services To Ahoada
In a bid geared toward
providing services to its subscribers in the orashi region of Rivers State, Airtel, one of the major network service providers has opened a franchise office at Ahoada, headquarters of the Ahoada East Local Government Area.
Airtel’s Business Representative in charge of Ahoada East, Mr. Marvin Kanu, who spoke to our correspondent shortly after the event said the essence of opening the express shop was to give its customers a stress free access to the Airtel network whenever they needed their services
Kanu said with the opening of the franchise outlet, subscribers had no need to travel to Port Harcourt to solve any problems so long as they are Airtel subscribers.
“Most often people go to Port Harcourt to resolved issues so we believe that it gives a lot stress to our customers so we decided to ease their stress by opening this shop,” he said.
Kanu claimed that the shop had the same capacity as any other Airtel shop anywhere in the country even as he said whatever the shop at Ahoada cannot handle can still not be handled in any of their offices.
On how Airtel plans to handle the incidence of unsolicited messages to its customers, the outfit’s business representative said the company has a way of giving information to customers on how to unsubscribe.
He said it was expected that any subscriber who feels bad about such message follow the procedure or in the alternative visit the express office for assistance.
Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jeros Communications Limited Ahoada, Dr. Gracious Eze while speaking said the aim of the franchise was to bring the services of Airtel to subscribers in Ahoada, Abua, Omoku and Elele amongst others.
According to Eze whose company runs the franchise, Airtel express was set to resolve every problem associated with subscribers’ needs in the area.
He said its major challenge was how to stabilise the network in the area to enable more subscribers join the Airtel plat form.
“Now that we have come close to the people we hope to surmount the problem associated with dangling network service,” he said.
While describing the event as unique and remarkable he called on its subscribers not to border travelling to Port Harcourt for Airtel associated problems as the Ahoada express outlet could solve such problems.
A cross section of subscribers who spoke to our correspondent expressed the hope that the opening of the franchise would help solve their problems in the zone.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
