…Calls For Industry Involvement In Education
The Rector of the Riv
ers State College of Arts and Science (RIVCAS), Dr. Hillary Wordu, has called on industries in Nigeria to be more involved in the educational sector to enable it produce the necessary manpower needed to develop the country.
The RIVCAS boss stated this recently in his office while fielding questions from The Tide’s Education correspondent.
According to Dr Wordu, currently, industries who constitute key stakeholders in the educational sector, find it difficult to assist in moulding the manpower they require for the development of society.
“Running of school requires that stakeholders like industries should participate in it.
“But how far are they participating?.
“Many industries we have in the (Rivers) state refuse to take our students industrial attachment. What do we do in such cases?” he said.
The result, he explained further, is that you see somebody who is studying Electronics or Computer Engineering ending-up doing photocopying during his industrial attachment.
“It’s not supposed to be so.”
As a way forward, the Rector called for the establishment of an advisory committee that should include representatives of industries.
“So that what we produce is not going to be far from what the industries need. This is how it is supposed to be”, he said.
