Ranchers Bees Attack Referee Fans In Kaduna
Players of Ranchers
Bees FC of Kaduna on Friday in Abuja attacked centre referee Charles Ozigbo from Anambra during their week 30 replay match in the Nigeria National League (NNL).
In the match played at the FIFA Goal Project pitch of the National Stadium, the attack came immediately after Ozigbo awarded a penalty kick to Kwara United FC.
This was in the 20th minute of the match scheduled to hold for only 28 minutes, after their earlier meeting had ended abruptly in the 62nd minute.
In this match slated to begin at 10 a.m., the centre referee and the assistant referees were almost lynched but for the prompt intervention of security officials.
Ozigbo had a cut on his face and head and was taken out of the stadium in an ambulance, along with other officials.
The other officials are First Assistant Referee Eze Nwankwo, Second Assistant Referee Anozie John-Mary and the Match Commissioner, Mohammed Manzo.
The match was thereafter abandoned as the Ranchers Bees players further unleashed their anger on some policemen and football fans around.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the decision to have the match’s remaining 28 minutes played was taken by the Appeals Committee of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA).
Both teams had met in Kaduna on November 15, in a match crucial to both sides’ promotion chances, but it was abandoned in the 62nd minute at 2-2.
Violence had erupted some moments after hosts Ranchers Bees had drawn level from two goals down.
Kwara United FC of Ilorin had needed a win from the match to be promoted to the 2014/2015 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), with the Ranchers just needing a draw.

Iwobi Optimistic On S’Eagles Qualification
Iwobi spoke to Tidesports source ahead of Nigeria’s crunch playoff semi-final against Gabon on Thursday, November 13, in Rabat, Morocco.
The 28-year-old was reacting to Nigeria’s shaky World Cup qualifying campaign that saw the Eagles finish second in Group C behind South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
“We’ve managed to rescue ourselves from the dead,” Iwobi told Tidesports source.
We know we have the players and the abilities to compete against any other country in the world.”
The Fulham star pointed to Nigeria’s star power, highlighting African Footballer of the Year winners Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen as proof of the squad’s quality.
“We have last year’s African best player (Ademola Lookman), the year before that (Victor Osimhen),” he said.
“It’ll be a shame if we don’t make it, but we have a lot of confidence. We just have to prove it to ourselves.”
Nigeria’s path to the United States, Canada and Mexico has been turbulent, with two coaches departing during the early stages of qualifying before Éric Chelle steadied the ship to steer the Super Eagles into November’s CAF playoffs.
Four nations from the continent – Nigeria, Cameroon, DR Congo and Gabon – will vie for a solitary spot to compete in next March’s inter-confederation playoffs, with a view to joining the already nine qualified African nations at the Finals.
It would mark Iwobi’s second appearance at the World Cup Finals and the Super Eagles’ first since the 2018 edition of the competition.
Back then, Iwobi featured in all three games as Nigeria was knocked out in the group stage.
