Amaechi Tasks Citizens On Massive Voters Card Collection
Few days to the take off of the collection of Permanent Voters Card on Friday, Governor Chibuike Amaechi has called on the State citizenry to participate massively in order to vote out bad government in 2015.
Speaking through the Chief of Staff, Government House, Sir Tony Okocha at a function in Eleme, yesterday, Governor Amaechi described the permanent voters card as instrument to check bad governance in the country.
He said the voter’s card is the only instrument to vote out bad governance and non-performing politicians.
In the word of the governor, “the weapon you will use to vote out bad government is your voters’ card.
He maintained that government will continue to beef up campaign so the citizenry will participate massively in the exercise slated for this weekend all over the state.
“We are not saying that you go and collect it and vote for APC. Go and collect it because it’s your right. Put it in your pocket and on the election day go and vote for who you want, but our advise is that you vote wisely”, he said.
Meanwhile, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Aniedi Ikoiwak has warned citizens of the consequences of handing their card to another person.
Mr. Ikoiwak disclosed that the permanent voters card collection will take place in all the polling units of the State and that citizens are expected to come with their temporary voters card and exchange them for the permanent voters card.
He warned, “the cards will be given to the names on the temporary card nobody is going to use another person’s card.
You will be embarrassed because by the time the card reader raises alarm because it’s another person’s card, that is a ticket for arrest”.
The Rivers State INEC Commissioner stated that registration of new voters will commence after the distribution of permanent voters card, “if you don’t have a permanent voters card and you are a candidate of a permanent voters card, three days after which will extend for another five days”.
