Kidnappers Demand N200m To Free Chioma
One week after the lawmaker representing Etche II Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Golden Chioma, was kidnapped, his captors are demanding for N200million as ransom.
But a source close to the family of the victim said the kidnappers had established contact with them (family members) and asked for the sum of N200million as ransom.
Though it was gathered that the family told the abductors of their bread winner that they could pay such amount of money, it could not be ascertained if the kidnappers were ready to slash the amount.
“They (kidnappers) have established contact with some family members of the lawmaker and they are asking for N200million as ransom.
“But the family members are saying they do not have such an amount of money,” the source, who does not want his name mentioned because of the sensitive nature of the incident, said.
Chioma, who is the House Committee Chairman on Judiciary, was abducted in the night around Diobu area of Port Harcourt by three armed men.
It was gathered that the lawmaker had gone to inspect his building still under construction before he was accosted and whisked away by the hoodlums.
Sources said the incident, which occurred between 7.30pm and 8pm caused confusion within the area as residents watched helplessly as the lawmaker was being driven away to an unknown destination.
Meanwhile, the Leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Chidi Lloyd, has condemned the abduction of the lawmaker.
Lloyd, who spoke during plenary yesterday, commended the police for their investigation into the incident so far and urged them to ensure Chioma’s speedy release
