Reps Recognise Agbokim Waterfront As Heritage Site
The House of Repre
sentatives has pledged to spearhead the presentation of Agbokim Waterfalls in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State as a heritage centre in the country.
Interacting with newsmen at the famous waterfalls in the area, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, said he would use his position in the legislature to ensure the speedy realisation of the area as a heritage centre in Nigeria.
The lawmaker described the waterfalls as a wonderful scenery and God’s mystery in nature and expressed disappointment at the Federal Government’s inability to establish tourism as an effective platform for economic growth and heritage preservation.
Responding, Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State, explained that the Agbokim Waterfalls which, he said, is a prominent feature in the State Tourism Circuit, is also capable of generating enough electricity for at least, three states, if fully harnessed, aside from its tourism dimension.
The governor’s wife, Obioma and the Deputy Governor’s wife, Mrs. Glory Efiok Cogham, who were part of the dignitaries, received briefs from the natural tourism infrastructure by the tour guide in the area.
Our correspondent reports that visitors witnessed the formation of Bright Rainbow colours occasioned by the forceful and massive cascading waters.
