“I’m Called To Preach The Gospel In Police Uniform” – Woman Corporal
For Corporal Pretty
Nkorpue, a Pastor, gospel musician, and a serving member of the Nigeria Police Force attached to Police Chaplaincy office ‘A’ Department, Rivers State Police Command, life, as she is concerned is a borrowed one and can only be better utilised in serving God and humanity.
To many, it is an irony to see a gospel preacher in police uniform. W/CPL Pretty Nkorpue, a Botem Tai Local Government-born, has proven to the public, that something good can come out of Nazareth.
Recruited into the Nigeria Police Force 11yrs ago, Corporal Pretty Nkorpue, remained in search of life fulfillment until she pitched her tent with the Nigeria Police Chaplaincy office ‘A’ Department, Rivers State Police Command.
In her zeal to make real her mandate of evangelising the police, Pretty last year acquired a gospel ministerial education that now qualifies her a pastor. Today this lady police officer has produced a musical album to press home her message of the kingdom of God to her generation. In an interview with The Tide Women’s Desk, the Female Police Officer relates her passion for the gospel in the barrack.
As a minister, how do you cope with the police duty? We in the chaplaincy, we are charged with the responsibility of preaching the gospel in the police office. Our motto is “God in police for transformation,” so there is no conflict anywhere. My duty post is in the chaplaincy where I have someone who gives me orders and oversees my activities. We are spiritually committed towards the upliftment of the Nigeria Police and that we are doing.
Q What motivated you into music?
Already I know I have a call to be a minister of the gospel, but sometime last year God told me to adopt music as part of my gospel ministration mandate but I did not see that possible because I didn’t have a good voice, so in my protest, God insisted and that was it. At his command, I braced up for the musical studio and the result was the production of this musical CD
What is your music all about and why did you consider it apt for this moment?
My music is just a reminder to people that we are mere strangers, or pilgrims in this world, we are not yet at our destination.
I consider this message appropriate at this moment because a lot of people have become so relaxed, perpetrating all manners of evil, without a cause to consider that we are accountable for our deeds and that we are answerable to a supreme God who will bring to book all that we have done here on earth. If we parade that consciousness of an eternal home somewhere, it will enable us minimise or outrightly stop evil practices and do good instead which is what God demands of us.
Is God in police for transformation realistic?
Sure! You need to see how police officers embrace the presence of the chaplaincy in the barrack. They are challenged to see fellow police officers preach the gospel and many, I tell you many give their lives to Christ and their lives are positively affected by the gospel in the barracks.
Do you consider it better preaching on uniform?
Absolutely yes! Many people have advised me to resign and go into full time ministry as a civilian but I keep telling them that my calling is to preach the gospel as a police officer to the police. For now, God is using the police uniform to advertise his world . One thing we need to know is that God is all-knowing, he has his reasons for his choices and I also feel that the target audience (the police) will be more accessible as an insider than as an outsider. Besides the police are also humans, they need the Lord’s tonic from time to time just like every other person.
So how do you feel taking the gospel to the barrack?
Hmmm, I fell fulfilled of course. Those who know me from beginning in Nigeria Police would tell you that I was not a very good instrument for the regular police duty and I was like one found wanting, all because my passion was for something different, though still in police clothing. So it is like discovering one self at a place where he rightly belongs. For me, whatever that would take me closer to God is welcome heaven is my goal.
What is your message to the people?
Christ is coming again, the consciousness of our stranger state on earth is important because we will all appear before the Almighty God some day some time.
