Akpabio Appeals To Workers On Pension Scheme
The Akwa Ibom State
Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has appealed to workers to be patient as government was doing all within its powers to ensure the prompt refund of the contributory pension monies.
Akpabio, who made the appeal during the celebration of 2014 Workers’ Day at Uyo Sports Stadium, assured that the state would soon come up with a favourable pension scheme for workers, promising to put in motion a machinery for the enactment of law to cater for a pension scheme that would take care of the peculiarity of Akwa Ibom workers.
The governor, who also promised to take advantage of the reviewed pension law at the National level, said he would have the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice to review the new national pension law, draft and send the law to the state House of Assembly for deliberation and approval.
On his relationship with the workers, Akpabio said: “I am proud of the cordial relationship existing between our administration and the workers. Your narrative has been that I am the most worker-friendly governor in our country. But what did you expect when you elected a worker as a governor? This has been a government of workers, for workers and by workers.”
Referring to the theme of this year’s celebration, “Building Enduring Peace and Unity: Panacea for Sustainable National Development,” Akpabio said it was with that sense of solidarity that he considered the choice of the theme as apt and timely as it came at a period the nation found itself in dire need of peace and unity.
“Those who sow the seeds of discord and insecurity, stifle development and progress in our society. It is our civic duty, therefore, to support the determined efforts of our President to stamp out these twin evils from our society,” the governor said.
