Agency Plans 250km Roads For C’River
The Cross River-Rural
Access and Mobility Project (CR-RAMP), says it will construct 250 kilometre roads in the state under the second phase of the project which begins in 2015.
The agency’s Project Coordinator, Mr Charles Okongoh, who made the disclosure in Calabar, said the areas where the roads would be constructed had been identified.
Okongoh said the costs of the projects were being determined and the budget would be presented to the international development partners after the assessment.
“We have identified some rural roads under this project and we are also collaborating with some chairmen of local government areas to ensure that more critical ones are included. We are already working on a budget for the 250 kilometre roads and when we are through, we will present it to the donour partners. We will equally agree on percentages of funding for the projects between the state government and the donour partners,” he said.
According to him, because of the success recorded by CR-RAMP in the first phase, many international donors had indicated interest to fund the project’s extension.
“Because of the success of CR-RAMP in the state, many international development partners are ready to finance Phase II of it in 2015. Many of them including Islamic Development Bank, European Union, World Bank and the French Bank have all been making enquires,” he said.
Under the first phase of the project which is now winding up, the CR-RAMP undertook the construction of 474 rural roads across the state.
Most of the roads have been completed while few are in their last stages of completion.
