CSO Urges Nigerians To Fight Financial Mismanagement
The Lead Director of a Civil Society Organisation, the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) in Abuja, Barrister Eze Onyekpere, has expressed dissatisfaction over the docile and fearful attitude of Nigerians in challenging financial misappropriation by their leaders.
The Director who spoke on “Public Finance Management and Impunity, during the stop Impunity Nigeria (SIN) town hall meeting in Port Harcourt last week, said that the inability of Nigerians to pursue their right has given rise to many financial problem which have continued over the years.
He expressed worry over the repeated votes in the national budget with slightly different names, adding that there is the need for citizens to investigate and ask questions on how the public fund is being used.
“There is the need to resist the authorities that force the citizens to over sweat,” he said, noting that the Stop Impunity Campaign can only change the society and leaders if citizens would stand up and fight against financial mismanagement.
Also speaking the state Co-ordinator Citizens Wealth Plat (CWP), Mr Victor Anyanwu, stated that Stop Impunity Campaign is aimed at taking action against the evil doers in the society.
He noted that Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi meeting, challenged civil society groups to work more, as they are not doing enough to demand for change and good governance.
Anyanwu called on the audience to prepare for action, adding that “the major concern of CWP in the impunity saga is the manifestation of monumental misallocation and mismanagement of public resources through the budgetary process,” saying that this was as a result of the public’s refusal to challenge assaults on the treasury.
In his presentation, Mr Victor Abel from CSJ in a paper, “Patriotism, Ethics and Civic Responsibility called on Nigerians to stop sitting on the fence and develop a sense of action more to change things.
Abel noted that the need and responsibility of the citizens to live right and protect the interest of the nation, in words and action.”
In another paper, “impunity, Rule of Law and Administration of Justice,” Mr Kingsley Nnajiaka said that improvement on the rule of law in the nation will improve Nigeria’s ranking before the international community.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
