‘SAHCOL’ll Exceed Customers’ Expectation’
The Skyway Aviation
Handling Company Limited (SAHCOL) has held a four-day management retreat with the chairman of the company, Mr Taiwo Afolabi, urging staff to aim towards exceeding customers’ expectation.
The retreat which was held at Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, was attended by executive and middle level managers of SAHCOL with the theme: ‘Exceeding Customers Expectations In 2014 And Beyond.
Thanking staff for their efforts in 2013 and in the past years, since the takeover of SAHCOL by the Sifax Group, Mr Afolabi said through collective efforts of all, the company has lived and continued to take steady steps in the direction of its vision.
Mr Afolabi stressed that though SAHCOL is nowhere near its destination, he is convinced that by the commitment, loyalty and dedication of staff to duty, the company would get there.
Speaking on the retreat, he said “as service providers, customers are the only reason we are in business today and for us to maintain business tomorrow, our collective efforts must be directed at delivering quality service that will exceed their expectations.”
According to him, “Customers satisfaction is the guarantee that the company will earn revenue which will translate into salaries for staff and profits for shareholders, hence, we must place premium on having them satisfied beyond bounds.”
He promised that the Board remains committed to providing every necessary support both financial and moral that will make SAHCOL emerge as the ground handling of choice and as an organization that caters for the welfare of its employees.
Mr Afolabi challenged the participants that in order to build the organization of choice, they must all be dedicated to their jobs, pay greater attention to customers; display integrity and transparency in all their dealings while working as a team ignited by visionary leadership.
He disclosed that when the Sifax Group invested in SAHCOL in 2009, through the Bureau of Public Entreprises (BPE), the objectives were clear, which were to reverse the trend of decline and build a company that can effectively compete in ground handling not just in Nigeria, but globally and also to provide a platform through which employees would develop expertise and achieve their various ambitions.
According to him, primarily the focus has been on the provision of quality service as well as the welfare of all staff in SAHCOL, stressing that these values have not changed and that the Board is even committed to do more.
The chairman also hinted that the Ultra Modern Cargo Warehouse which will become operational in the second quarter of 2014, with the State-of-the-art and the first of its kind in West Africa would add value to the operations of the company.

Aviation Professionals Want Agencies Boards’ Inauguration
As a measure to curb corruption and restore accountability, the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), has called on the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to push for the urgent formation and inauguration of governing boards for all other aviation agencies.
ANAP’s Secretary General, AbdulRasaq Saidu, made this call at the weekend when interacting with aviation correspondents, in reaction to recent inauguration of Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Keyamo had recently inaugurated the FAAN board, more than six months after its members were appointed by President Bola Tinubu, where Dr. Umar Ganduje was named Board Chairman, with FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, as the Vice Chairman.
Other board members include representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Defence, Tourism, and Aviation, as well as professionals from the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, and FAAN’s legal department.
The ANAP scribe there urged the aviation Minister not to stop at FAAN but to ensure that all aviation parastatals are given functional boards to restore order and credibility to the sector.
He, however, commended Keyamo for recently inaugurating the board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria but stressed that more needed to be done.
Saidu also warned that the continued delay in constituting boards for other aviation agencies creates room for unchecked abuses, including illegal contracts, fraudulent employment practices, and mismanagement.
“The absence of governing boards violates the enabling Acts that established these agencies. Only properly constituted boards can enforce discipline, ensure due process in decision-making, and provide oversight to prevent corruption”, Saidu said.
He emphasised that the aviation unions, including ANAP, have consistently raised concerns about poor governance and lack of transparency within the aviation system.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to act swiftly by appointing board members for all relevant agencies, in the interest of fairness and aviation safety.
Saidu also tackled the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, for failing to inaugurate any boards during his eight-year tenure, despite appointments being made by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“ANAP raised the alarm several times under Sirika’s leadership, but nothing changed. That lapse has continued under the current administration, and it must be addressed now”, Saidu stated.
