Useni Urges Collaboration Against Challenges In Aviation
A former Minister of
Transport, Lt-Gen. Jeremiah Useni (Rtd), yesterday called for more collaboration among stakeholders to address emerging challenges in the sector.
He made the call when he was conferred with the Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Aviation Management (CIAM).
The ceremony was held at the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Kaduna State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Captain Chinyere Kalu, NCAT Rector and Dr Aminu Musa-Yusuf, Director-General, Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria were also conferred with the fellowship.
Useni said the call became necessary in view of the benefits derivable from such partnership. He said such collaboration would enable the organisations to work as a team and fast track understanding in solving emerging challenges.
The former minister observed that “nothing moves unless there is transportation, hence the need to accord special attention to it’.
CIAM Vice President, Air Comdr. Ishaku Komo, in a paper entitled: ‘Managing the Challenges of Aviation Industry in Nigeria’, identified such challenges to include absence of check and balances as well as poor infrastructure.
He also identified lack of security, inadequate power supply and lack of accountability and transparency, brain drain and poor contracts as additional challenges in the sector.
Earlier, NCAT Rector said the college had so far graduated about 12,000 aviation professionals since its establishment.
She said the mission of the college was to primarily conduct flight training and other civil aviation courses in the area of airport operation and management.
Kalu added that the college also trains personnel in the installation, maintenance and operation of technical equipment. Responding on behalf of the recipients, the NITT DG, appreciated CIAM for finding them worthy of the award.
