Association Disowns Traders Over Protest
The Mile One Market
Traders Association (MOMTA) has disowned some traders who protested against the demolition of shanties at the burnt section of the market by the Port Harcourt Local Government Council for the construction of a model market.
The chairman of the association, Deacon Kenneth Eze who said this at a briefing in his office in Port Harcourt said that the association welcomed the move by the government to commence the reconstruction of the market.
Deacon Eze said that the protesters were not members of the association but road side traders who have no stake in the market.
He emphassed that they were petty traders who deal on fish and other seafoods.
The association chairman urged the general public to ignore the protesters and continue to sustain their relationship with those traders who have already relocated to the former Obi Wali integrated cultural centre along Abonnema Wharf road, Port Harcourt.
Deacon Eze urged the state Government and the Port Harcourt city council to go on with the proposed reconstruction as it is in the interest of traders and the people of the state.
