The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State says the state deserves “well-worded” apologies from two prominent members of the party in the State whom it accused of playing key but ignoble roles in the crises that engulfed the party in 2013. The PDP, in its New Year message in Port Harcourt by the State Publicity Secretary, George Ukwuoma-Nwogba, thanked God for guarding the State and Governor Chibuike Amaechi through 2013 against what it described as “unpatriotic activities” of Mr. Felix Obuah, PDP Chairman in Rivers State, and Prince Ibibia Walter, the State Secretary.
The statement read in part, “The Chief Godspower Ake-led PDP in Rivers State thanks the Almighty God for guarding the state through 2013 despite the unpatriotic activities of Felix Obuah, Ibibia Walter and their cohorts. There is no doubt that God is greater than man and in His eternal foresight, chose a Governor in the mould of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, CON, for the State in 2011. Had God done anything less, Obuah and his cohorts would have swallowed the entire state down their gluttonous belly.”
While the PDP saluted Governor Amaechi for standing committed to the people of Rivers State and his oath of office despite the provocations against his administration anchored on Obuah and his likes, the PDP prescribed well-worded apologies from the duo as part of the restitution they owe Rivers State and her people. “While we salute our dear Governor Amaechi for standing on the side of service to the state and her people, Obuah, Walter and their co-wayfarers should tender well-worded, unreserved apologies to Rivers people over the insurrection they raised in the state in 2013. Only the mighty Hands of God stemmed the evil wind the two ignited in the State last year.”
The PDP continued, “We sincerely regret that Obuah and Walter are members of our party as all their actions and speeches in 2013 showed them as enemies of the PDP. We would have loved where their memberships were reviewed to save the PDP from further downward slip into rag-tag opposition party. Obuah and Walter were the architects of the crises that engulfed our party. It’s obvious that Obuah is a misnomer and not fit as Chairman of our party. While we await the ruling of the Learned Justices of the Appeal Court over who is the true Chairman of our great party in Rivers State, we reiterate the urgency to seek the forgiveness of Rivers people and indeed the entire nation through immediate apology from the two for igniting the crises that swallowed the PDP, turning it into an opposition party.”
