FRSC To Deploy More Operatives On Roads
With the envisaged increase in political activities in 2014, the Federal Road Safety Commission will increase the presence of its operatives on critical highways across the country, Mr Osita Chidoka, has said.
Chidoka, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, who stated this at a news conference on Friday, said that increasing operatives on roads would assist in effective traffic control throughout 2014.
“In the same vein, this year will witness improved regulatory and enforcement capacity with projected target of reducing road crashes by 15 per cent and fatalities by 25 per cent.
“The commission, will fast-track the enforcement on the speed limiter use on vehicles to curtail excessive speeding by commercial vehicles,” he said.
He added that this would help in reducing road accidents involving that category of vehicles by 30 per cent in line with the UN decade of action.
Other strategies, Chidoka said included the promotion of breathalysers and radar guns at critical corridors to regulate speed of motorists as well as increase monitoring of motor parks.
Chidoka said that under the World Bank initiative, the FRSC will in February send 30 of its operatives to California for training on effective traffic management and control.
He appealed to relevant stakeholders including the media to assist the commission in the efforts to reduce road traffic accidents and deaths in the country.
