HOS Cautions Civil Servants On Misappropriation Of Funds
The Head of Service of
the Federation, Alhaji Bukar Goni Aji has urged civil servants to show a high level of patriotism in the discharge of their duties.
The Head of Service gave the charge at the banquet hall of the Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt, recently during an interactive session with federal civil servants based in Rivers State.
The Head of Service of the Federation who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Linus Awute said the civil service was critical to the development of the Nigerian economy.
He stated that the interactive session was to avail civil servants the opportunity to make meaningful contributions in the process of governance, pointing out that the platform would promote their participation in the transformation agenda of the Federal Government.
The Head of Service of the Federation, also disclosed that the Federal Government was poised to reform the Federal Civil Service to meet up modern development challenges.
He cautioned against misappropriation of public funds, pointing out that the civil service as the bulwark of development, should be premised on the principles of accountability and transparency in the management of resources.
He also assured that the Federal Government would continue to give priority attention to the welfare of workers to boost their productive capacity.
Speaking at the interactive session, a participant, Mr Emmanuel Diefegha, called on the Federal Government to upgrade the state of infrastructure at the Federal Secretariat in Port Harcourt.
Diefegha who spoke onbehalf of Association of Civil Servants in Rivers State, said the upgrading of facilities at the secretariat would enhance efficiency.
He called for proper review of public service rule and the introduction of motivational rewards for outstanding performance to promote excellence in the service, adding that the public service should be made ICT complaint.
