Etche Journalists Decry Destruction Of Govt’s Projects
The Association of Etche Ethnic Practising Journalists (EEPJ) has condemned in strong terms the act of using the youths by politicians to destroy government projects executed by the present administration in the area.
In a statement jointly signed by Mr. Chris Oluo and Amadi Akujobi, Chairman and Secretary respectively, the group particularly condemned the recent destruction of the council’s buses at Ulakwo and Okehi as well as the stoppage of the on-going Eketa Igbodo Market by some misguided youths in the area, describing the act as barbaric and uncivilised.
The group stated that the council buses and the market being constructed by the present administration were not properties of any political party in the area, be it PDP or APC but properties of Etche and should be protected by all.
The statement further averred that the act of sending hoodlums in the name of political group to destroy projects that belong to the people was highly condemnable.
The statement added that those laudable projects were proofs that democracy dividends had gotten to the grassroot, adding that the essence of democracy would amount to nothing if projects instituted by the present administration were destroyed.
The group uses this medium to advise all politicians and political parties in the area to play the game with decency and respect the rights and freedom of all in whatever political platform while calling on the youths of the area to resist any attempt by any politician or group of persons to cause mayhem.
The group called on the various security agencies in the area to live up to their statutory responsibilities by dealing decisively with youths or group of persons caught trying to truncate the existing peace enjoyed in the area.
