Group Trains 400 Youths On Leadership
A non-governmental
organisation (NGO), Fast Track Development Initiative (FOI) has trained over 400 youths in Rivers State on how to become future leaders of the state and the nation in general.
Speaking at a one day workshop held at the Atlantic Hall of Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt recently, with the theme “Emerging, leaders: Roles and Responsibilities”, the Executive Director FDI, Engr. Nyerebara Justus said the orgainstation was a training and development organisation which focused on helping young people develop leadership skills and capacity to effectively take responsibility for the personal successes and community developments.
Engr. Nyerebara averred that FDI was founded in 2011 as a non-profit governmental organisation by a group of motivated and skilled young professionals interested in the ongoing development, advancement and interaction of young people in various communities with its core values anchored on integrity, service and excellence.
According to him, the organisation was dedicated to grooming and educating youths on improving their personal style, values, strengths and competence to grow as visionary leaders, motivate others and impact their organisations and communities for better.
He stated that the “Emerging Leaders Project (ELP), 2013” was not just a programme but a project designed to transform potential leaders to a well-bred leaders based on our core values, adding that for any nation to develop, there has to be leadership processes that would mould the minds of the potential leaders to effectively function in that capacity.
The FDI Executive Director opined that at the end of the workshop participants were expected to understand the basic foundations of personal leadership, developed personal leadership skills and fake personal responsibility for their success, adding that the participants were drawn from the 23 local government areas of the state as well as some youths from other states resident in Rivers State.
Delivering a lecture entitled “the role of leadership in National Development”, Engr. Matthias Akhideno blamed the country’s backdwardness on bad leadership, adding that the nation was endowed with many natural resources.
