Security Threats: Sultan Sues For Dialogue
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has stressed the need for dialogue as the best option for the resolution of security challenges in the country.
Abubakar, who is also the Co-Chairman of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council, said this in Uyo on Tuesday at the opening of a two-day conference organised by the council.
He urged the Federal Government not to give up in finding a lasting solution to the current insecurity in the country, and advised religious leaders to always toe the path of righteousness by telling their followers the truth.
“No religion preaches violence and as such, cases of terrorism should be treated as criminal. “Dialogue is the best option in the resolution of any conflict situation. Religious leaders must always speak the truth. “Insecurity is everywhere and must be checked by all of us. No religion preaches violence and such cases should be treated as criminal,” he said “we will not stop in giving advice to government because it is our responsibility.’’
The council was formed to promote peace and unity between Christians and Muslims in the country.
Meanwhile, the organisation has inaugurated the Akwa Ibom chapter, with Bishop Cletus Bassey and Alhaji Mohammed Adamu as co-chairmen.
