Commissioner Lambasts NULGE Over LG Autonomy
The Rivers State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Hon Samuel Eyiba has lambasted the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the on-going clamour for local government autonomy.
He said this while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt recently.
Eyiba regretted that the leadership of NULGE failed to realize that the state government would never temper with local government funds, saying “the issue of non-performance has nothing to do with the government”.
Some LGAs, like Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni has soared high even in the face of the so-called inadequate funding claimed by some NULGE leadership”.
According to him, the LG leadership, staff and union should think of how best to promote the interests of the state government and not to criticise even some government’s good projects.
He pointed out that his ministry had done more than enough in accordance with the law, particularly in the area of ensuring proper of supervision of local government activities.
It would be recalled that the national president of NULGE, Comrade Ibrahim Khaled led the South South of the union to Rivers State House of Assembly last Thursday to demand for the autonomy of the local government administration.
