Unijos Matriculates 4,000 Students
The Vice Chancellor, University of Jos, Prof. Hayward Mafuyai, has charged the 4,000 matriculating students of the institution to be of good behaviour.
Mafuyai gave the charge while addressing the students who matriculated into the nine faculties of the institution in Jos on Wednesday.
He said that the ceremony was meant to acquaint the new students with the fundamental principles, directives and ethics of the institution.
“Consider yourselves lucky to be admitted out of the 40,000 students that applied for admission into University of Jos. Be of good behaviour and work hard,” he said.
The vice chancellor said the university was committed to the quest for academic excellence in all its academic programmes.
He implored the new students to report truant lecturers to the heads of department to enable the management to take action against such staff.
He cautioned the students against joining bad groups, adding that Unijos prohibited any anti-social groups from operating on its campus.
“In particular, membership of cult groups is prohibited and offenders are summarily expelled.
“You must shun all overtures, including threats on you by such devilish groups to join their membership.
“Let me sternly warn you that the university has no room for cultists as no effort will be spared in stamping them out whenever they are found.’’
Mafuyai, who urged the students to familiarise themselves with the activities of the students’ union, said that engaging in the activities of the union would be of benefit to them.
He warned the students against indecent dressing, saying that undue exposure of body parts capable of infuriating the “sensibilities of other students” would be sanctioned.
