Immigration Boss Urges Partnership With Monarchs
The need for continuous partnership between government agencies and the traditional institution, maintenance of law and order has been emphasised.
The Nigerian Immigration boss incharge of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA), Rivers State, Mrs Florence Samuel said traditional rulers remain the custodians of the country’s laws, culture, tradition and peaceful co-existence of our people, adding that they are expected to fish out illegal immigrants in the society.
Mrs Samuel who made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the palace of Eze Ohiali in Omoku expressed joy over the hospitality the Immigration office in ONELGA enjoys from the people of the area and promised to partner with the palace in the execution of her official responsibilities.
She solicited for assistance from the monarch in ensuring that the area was ridded of illegal foreigners who constitute threat to national security.
In his response, the prince to the Eze Ohali throne, who represented his father, Monday Eze Ohali welcomed the Immigration boss and her entourage to ONELGA and assured them of assistance in the discharge of their duties.
Eze Ohali also harped on the need for sensitisation of the people on the functions of immigration office as rural people may not be well informed on existence and essence of their jobs.
He noted that Omoku and its suburbs are undergoing serious urbanisation process which requires effective immigration and policing of immigrants, which may be used by criminally-minded people for criminal activities.
