Vision 20:2020: Board Canvasses Massive Investments On Construction Sector
The Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria, has called on government and other stakeholders to facilitate massive investments in the building and construction sector to enhance the attainment of Vision 20:2020.
The board, at the end of a two-day round-table, also called for more efforts to be made to ensure efficient utilisation of federal allocations to the sector.
The call is contained in a communiqué signed by the Registrar of the board, Mr Godson Moneke, and made available to our source in Abuja.
The Building and Construction Economic Round-Table (BCERT2) had the theme “Role of the Building and Construction Sector in Achieving Vision 20:2020.”
In the communiqué, the board called for a higher share of government’s patronage of indigenous building and construction contractors and their participation in Public Private Partnerships.
“Government should encourage greater investment to improve and expand the nation’s transportation networks, including roads, railways, airports, sea ports and inland waterways,” it stated.
They also recommended the need for “Off-Budget’’ financing for the Building and Construction Sector to enable it play a major role in the realisation of Vision 20:2020.
The communiqué urged government and its relevant agencies to demonstrate more dedication to the campaign against corrupt practices in the management of the sector.
It further said that government should ensure the adoption of due processes in public procurement and use standing policy on project continuity.
The board, in the communiqué, called on government to replicate the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) at state levels.
“There should be massive investments in rural and federal roads to open up the states and local government areas,’’ it stated.
The board called on professionals in the sector to deepen and expand their collaboration in order to give the sector the pride of place it deserve in the socio-economic agenda of Nigeria.
Reports say that the surveyors board and its partners intend to explore options of developing a portal, which would incorporate a data base, hosted at its headquarters.
The portal would serve several purposes, including publicity and marketing for professionals, their activities, as well as information on contemporary and emerging issues as they affect the sector.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
