President Goodluck Jonathan, has commended the Nigerian Society of Engineers for securing the hosting right of the Permanent Secretariat of the Federation of African Engineering Organisations (FAEO).
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Olugbenga Ashiru, also commended the society for the fit.
The president and minister also congratulated, Mr Mustafa Shehu, the President of the Society, as the President-elect of the continental body.
In separate letters to Mr Ahmed Amshi, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Federal Government said it was pleased with the development.
The commendation is contained in a statement signed by Mr Ikenna Okpani, Head of Media and Publication of the society, and made available to the newsmen in Abuja.
It said that in the president’s letter, signed by the Chief of Staff, Chief Mike A Oghiadomhe, Jonathan was particularly pleased that the continental body came as a result of vigorous international role of the NSE.
“I wish, on behalf of Mr President, to congratulate NSE on these laudable achievements and to urge it to continue to play a pivotal role in the infrastructural development of the country.
“I wish to also urge the NSE to continue to maintain strong collaboration with similar institutions in the international scene.”
The Nigerian Society of Engineers had earlier written the President to brief him on the membership, structure and activities of the Society both at home and at the international level.
In his own congratulatory letter personally signed by himself, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb Olugbenga Ashiru, said the election would also afford the society the platform to showcase Nigeria and project a positive image of the country.
“I congratulate the NSE for clinching the coveted position of the FAEO’s President-Elect and the location of the FAEO Secretariat in Nigeria.
“I wish to observe that the development is a recognition of Nigeria’s profile within the African Region.
“It is consistent with the determination of the present administration to ensure that Nigeria retains its rightful place in the comity of Nations.”
