Hot Environment Worries Dutse Residents
The excessive heat being experienced in some Northern states, has forced most residents of Dutse in Jigawa, to abandon their rooms and sleep outside.
The Tide learnt that many residents of the town now sleep outside in spite of the risks associated with the practice.
A cross section of the residents who spoke to newsmen said the heat, especially at night, was so unbearable that sleeping inside any ‘enclosure’ was out of the question.
Malam Haladu Badai, a resident of Takur-site in Dutse, said that he and his family had been sleeping outside their rooms for the past one week.
Badai explained that the unstable power supply in the area made the situation worse.
Another resident, Malam Adamu Bashir of Yalwawa quarters, said he had been forced to be spending part of the night, from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m., with his family, outside their rooms.
“We enter the rooms around 3 a.m. when the weather is relatively favourable for sleep,’’ he said.
A resident of Fatara village in Jigawa, Malam Saminu Ado told newsmen that he decided to be sleeping outside to avoid the dreaded Cerebro-Spinal Meningitis disease caused by heat.
The Tide learnt that a hike in the patronage of local fans and air conditioners has increased since the sudden climate change in the area..
A local fan seller, Samaila Aliyu, said that people had been rushing to buy his wares, with his average daily sales rising from 20 units to 40.
Sahad store, one of the shops where air conditoners were being sold in Dutse, was also experiencing increased patronage.
A customer, Abdullahi Mohammed, said he was in Sahad store to buy air conditioner because fans were inadequate to handle the situation.
“Honestly, this town is hot. Everywhere is like hell. I just have no option than to buy the air conditioner,’’ he said.
