RSG To Sack Sluggish Contractors
The Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Chief Victor Giadom, has urged all contractors handling state government projects to go back to site with immediate effect or have their contracts terminated.
Chief Giadom who gave the directive on Monday in Port Harcourt, said all the projects would be inspected as soon as possible, adding that sluggish contractors would be relieved of their contracts.
He said that the state government would not condone any contractor who abandoned any government project after collecting mobilisation fees.
“The state government is directing all contractors handling projects with the Rivers State Ministry of Works to immediately return to their respective construction site. From today, a team from the state Ministry of Works will visit all construction sites to ensure compliance with the directive,” the commissioner said.
“We have very short period of construction works in this state and we must make good use of this dry season.
Any contractor not found in his project site, should have himself to blame,” Chief Giadom warned.
The Works Commissioner said, state government was committed to ensuring that road projects were completed before the commencement of the rainy season this year.
The Commissioner also stated that government was not owing any contractor handling the state projects in any parts of the state, adding that contractors handling the state projects had no excuse to give for not fast-tracking projects assigned to them.
