FRSC Laments State Of Roads South-East
The Anambra State Command of the FRSC, has lamented the poor state of federal roads in the South-East zone of the country, saying the roads posed serious danger to road users in the area.
The FRSC’s Sector Commander, Mr Ayobami Omiyale, made the observation in Awka on Monday at an enlightenment campaign to educate transporters and other road users on safety measures on the roads during the yuletide.
Omiyale said that although the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) had promised to put the roads in good shape before Christmas, it was not likely that such a promise would be fulfilled with just five days to the celebrations.
He said that the fact that the poor roads were unfriendly to vehicles and dangerous to smooth driving should make drivers to exercise extra care while driving.
Omiyale advised drivers to always check their vehicles in the morning, especially the state of the oil, brakes, trafficators and full lights so that the equipment would not disappoint them in the middle of their journeys.
He also urged the drivers to cultivate the habit of getting adequate rest for eight unbroken hours before handling the steering, saying that this would make the use of dangerous stimulants such as drugs, kolanuts and local gin unnecessary.
“The FRSC agents do not arrest a sleeping driver on steering but the trees, electric poles and rivers where such a driver normally plunges do,” he stated.
