Governors, Not In Court With FG – Amaechi
Rivers State Governor and Chairman of Nigerian Governor’s Forum(NGF), Rt Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, has dimissed claims that the forum was in court with the Federal Government.
Making the clarification during an interactive session with journalists last Friday to mark the fourth anniversary of the Supreme Court judgement that brought his administration to power in Government House, Port Harcourt, Rt Hon.Amaechi observed that the NGF has not taken the Federal Government to court over disagreement on the Soveriegn Wealth Fund(SWF).
He, however, stated that the body had sought the court to redress a pending matter that had been ongoing since the administration of late President Yar’Dua, which the Federal Government reneged on.
“We are not in court with the Federal Government, “there has been an old suit between the Federal Government and the governors on excess crude during the time of late President Yar’Adua,.” he stated.
He said a lot of people are miscontruing the matter with the current disagreement over the SWF.
Reacting to newspaper reports of Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomole dissociating himself from the alleged suit against the federal government, Amaechi declared,” it is not true that the Governors went to court over the SWF, however, I will talk with my brother the Edo State Governor. But I think he is reacting to a newspaper report”.
Reacting to questions over measures the State Government has taken to curtail the pains of motorists plying the dilapidated portions of East-West Road, Rt Hon. Amaechi responded that he has directed Setraco Construction Company to commence work on the portion of the road that covers through the Obio/Apkor and Port Harcourt axis to alleviate the sufferings of the citizens plying the route.
