LOC Secures Accommodation At RSUST
The Local Organising Committee of the on-going 17th National Sports Festival tagged “Garden City Games 2011, says it has secured hostel blocks at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) to accommodate extra contingents beyond the estimated 16,000.
This was disclosed yesterday by the secretary of the Main Organising Committee (MOC) of the 17th NSF, Abba Yola, during a press briefing held at the Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt.
According to him, over 16,000 athletes, more than the expected number are present to participate in the on-going Garden City Games.
The MOC scribe restated that there was no change of venues for all the names except that of chess which had been shifted to the Alfred Diete Spiff Sports Complex.
Yola, also debunked rumours that the medals for weightlifting would be reduced from three to one.
“That is not true, the medals remain three, nothing has changed”, he said.
Meanwhile, the LOC has promised to do all it could provide maximum security during the game.
“This game is to promote peace, unity and harmony in the country, so the MOC and the LOC will not want to jeopardise the effort of the Rivers State Government to host a successful festival in any way”, the MOC scribe maintained.
