ICT In RSUST, Excellent Idea – Registrar
The introduction of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the Rivers State University of Science and Technology Nkpolu has been described as an excellent idea by the authorities of the institution.
The Deputy Registrar (Public Relations) Mr. Desmond Wosu, in a chat with The Tide on Monday at the school premises said that the ICT performance in the school has been tremendous.
Wosu, pointed out that the school now receives a soft copy of JAMB instead of the hard copy.
He explained that the previous JAMB hard copy was, in a way, encouraging fraud, but since the introduction of the ICT, such is now under control.
He also told our reporter that his school was among the first universities in the country to be equipped with a standard ICT centre, hinting that it also introduced online post UME examinations.
Wosu noted that their results are now online with about seven years old results currently on the net.
The RSUST Registrar revealed that other universities in the country now copy the RSUST system, adding that both JAMB and the National Universities Commission (NUC) lauded the school over its efficient ICT system.
About the mode of payment in the school, he said that it now operates an e-payment system where all payment are made online, reducing the risk of cash fraud and wrong payment.
He further pointed out that all Deans and principal officers in the school now enjoy the use of computers in their various offices, which, according to him, has enhanced work performance.
The Tide gathered that the RSUST centre doubles as both training and re-training centre for both staff and students and as well, a centre for distance learning. About the challenges he said that it was minimal, only maintenance of computers.
The RSUST PRO said those people who initially opposed the ICT in the school now have accepted it due to its positive effect on the school system.
