NIMC Vows To Sanction Fraudulent Staff
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says it would not spare its personnel implicated in any fraudulent act, and charged the general public to report the commission’s officers for any criminal conduct.
The Rivers State Coordinator of NIMC, Mrs. Cloyadey Yahaya stated this in Port Harcourt. Mrs. Yahaya’s reaction is coming at the heels of reports in some quarters of bribery against some commission’s personnel in the state.
Mrs. Yahaya said that “National Identity Card free. There is no fees attached to the registration or issuance of ID in the country”.
She was emphatic that the commission would deal decisively with any reported case of fraudulent of its worker in the discharge of official duties.
Mrs. Yahaya also warned the public against paying of any ransom to commission’s staff to breach due process, assuring that NIMC would be prepared to make the suspect face diplomacy action.
It would be recalled that the management of the commission in the state had received series of complaints from the public that some staff of the commission demanded N2,500 from the public for registration and issuance of National ID cards in the state.
However, Mrs. Yahaya said the registration and issuance of the Identity card centres are available in various local government areas of the state.
The Rivers NIMC Coordinator spoke of the need for people to seek for the National ID Card, noting that any person without it would be regarded as a foreigner in the country.
According to her, federal government is making it compulsory that without National ID Card, no free medical care, no free education and even having business with bank would be difficult.
