… As NURSS Urges Dialogue
Following the face-off between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) branch, and the Rivers State Government, which is predicated on the implementation of the Federal Government/ASUU agreement reached in 2009, the leadership of the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) has appealed to the leadership of ASUU to suspend the strike to pave way for dialogue.
The appeal was made on Thursday in Port Harcourt by the National President of NURSS, Comrade Gods power Chioma Egbule, in a press conference organised by the Union.
Egbule also urged the management of the RSUST to withdraw the sack letters served on lecturers, saying that such letters would hamper the process of dialogues.
He explained that the decision to call for a dialogue is not an indictment on any of the party, rather, “a resolution based on our observation and the interest of our teeming student population, our university system and our dear state”.
NURSS urged the state government to provide a conducive environment for dialogue, saying that the University Authority and ASUU are willing to dialogue, as well as organise an education summit to address the issues bedeviling the university system.
