Ag Gov Tasks Judges On Justice Dispensation
The acting governor of Delta, Sam Obi, on Tuesday in Asaba, urged judges to dispense justice with clear conscience.
Obi made the call while swearing in Mrs Helen Akpotohwo as a judge of the State High Court.
He said, “ speedy dispensation of justice promotes true practice of democracy that is rooted in the rule of law.”
“I sincerely commend the judiciary for its performance so far as the confidence of the public in the administration of justice has risen appreciably.”
“As a judge, you are on the driving seat of the delivery of justice. Please strive to dispense justice with clear conscience. I therefore appeal to our judges to sustain the confidence through discharging of their duties with transparent honesty, sincerity of purpose and patriotic bent.”
He said the state government would continue to support an independent judiciary to enable it discharge its duties effectively.
“This administration takes the rule of law and quick dispensation of justice with all the seriousness they deserve. “It is in line with this disposition that we have just witnessed the oath taking of the new judge of the state’s judiciary,’’ Obi said.
Obi also called on the people of the state to continue to be law abiding and assist security agencies in combating crime.
Responding, Akpotohwo, who was the Chief Registrar of the State High Court until her new appointment, commended the state government for its initiatives in the judiciary. She pledged her commitment, dedication and loyalty to the law and constitution of the country while promising to abide by the oath of office.
Present at the occasion were the state’s Chief Judge, Mrs Rosaline Bozimo, the President of the state’s Customary Court, Mrs Stella Oghene, acting Speaker, Mr Basil Ganagana, commissioners as well as members of the bar and bench.
