Firms Seek Traffic Waiver For Heavy Duty Vehicles
Sequel to a stakeholder’s forum summoned by the Rivers State Traffic Management Authority (TMARIV) last week, some oil and transport firms have called for special waiver over the state’s new heavy duty vehicle restrictive law.
The stakeholders who barred their mind during an interactive session with TAMRIV Controller-General, Mr. Nelson Jaja said the heavy duty vehicles restrictive order needed to be reviewed.
Director of Tabansi Group of Motors, Chief Onenenyi Okolie appealed to the agency to extend the time beyond the usual 9pm to 7am.
The private transporter explained that since most of their big trucks conveyed perishable food items, the company would suffer huge losses if such goods did not reach their destination when they are needed.
Halliburton’s special representative, Comrade Collins Wowu pointed out that most of the activities of oil firms were essential considering the nature of their work and its importance to the economy.
Wowu who called for special waiver for siren, lamented the worsening traffic situation in the city, stressing that unless a special consideration was given to them, their work would be hampered.
Earlier in his remarks, representative of the State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Boma Emmanuel assured the stakeholders that the State Government did not evolve the laws to witch hunt any firm but to enforce order on the roads.
