Ogba People Grieve As Oba Loses Senior Wife
The death has been announced of Her Majesty, Olori Onyewonka Oyibolalu Patience Obi (JP), (Queen of Ogbaland), the Senior Wife of the Oba (Eze Ogba of Ogbaland) and two-time Chairman of Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, Sir (Dr) Chukumela Nnam Obi II.
A statement by the first son of the deceased, Prince Nwachuku Sunday Obuoha Obi says a Service of Songs has been slated for Friday August 6, 2010 in honour of the queen (the Anasika Eze Oba) who died on May 31, 2010 after a brief illness and would be buried on Saturday, August 7, 2010.
A jewel of inestimable value to the Eze Ogba, Sir Chukumela Nnam Obi II and the entire Ogba Kingdom, Olori Onyewonka Obi, 62, was until her death, a dependable community leader, devout Christian and compassionate mother to all, irrespective of tongue and creed.
Survived by her husband, many children and relatives, Olori Onyenwoka Obi, fondly called Odoziakwnu by her husband, was said to have fallen ill in Omoku two days after attending her first daughter’s birthday bash in Port Harcourt, and was rushed to a high-brow hospital in Port Harcourt where she died at about 6.10 am on that fateful day.
Since her demise, the ancient city of Omoku, nay, Oba’s Palace, has become a Mecca of some sort as a swam of eminent citizens and sympathisers, brooding under the canopy of profound loss and sadness, besiege a grief-stricken Oba and his royal family.
With her passage, the Oba (Eze Ogba) of Ogbaland, Sir (Dr) Chukumela Nnam Obi says a great mother, wife, friend and sister that is difficult to replace has gone.
