APMT Stems Vessels To Bonded Terminals
In compliance with the ministerial order, APM Terminal now stems at least 50 per cent of containers discharged at its terminal to bonded terminals to further enhance the prompt clearance of goods from the port.
Managing Director, APM Terminals, Apapa, Mr. Martin Dirks, who disclosed this to journalists in Lagos recently said the company was also taking steps to address such issues and enhance efficiency at the port.
Dirks stated that the company had always had the highest standards of working environment in Nigeria and conducting business in an efficient and professional manner, adding that it would adhere to the directives by the transport minister to not only present the terminal’s efficiency in ports activities but also serve as a role model to other terminals for the proper management of Ports.
Reacting to the minister’s visit to the terminal’s city office, Dirks maintained that the chaotic situation at the company’s city office necessitated the minister’s order for its closure.
He said however that the situation was artificially created by protesting agents to tarnish the image of the company.
In his words “we consider the agents’ actions which we have previously complained about a serious attack which resulted in damage to APMT’s positive image. Our city office has always been an example of professionalism and a place where our customers have been able to conclude their transactions with APMT in a civilised manner. It has been and still is an example in the maritime industry”.
Dirks explained that his organisation has cooperated fully with the Ministerial Task Force but decried the unilateral decision of the task force directive that APMT be closed down and relocated before June 15.
