‘Coys Responsible For High Unemployment In Rivers’
The Chairman of the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Ephraim Sobere Etete-Owoh has decried the low employment of Rivers indigenes by companies operating in the state.
Chief Etete-Owoh said this during a courtesy call on him by officials of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) in Port Harcourt.
The Local Government Service Commission boss stated that the high rate of unemployment being experienced presently in the state would have been reduced if companies operating in the state had created employment opportunities for Rivers indigenes.
He commended the Federal Character Commission for ensuring equality, especially in the area of employment at the federal level and urged the commission to prevail on private organisations in the state to adopt the same principles in their employment programmes.
Earlier, the state Federal Commissioner at FCC, Ambassador Spiff Mike Taribo said the commission is out to balance appointment in the federal service.
According to him, the commission will ensure that no state is short-changed in the employment process.
