NOSDRAAssures On Commitment To Regulations
Acting Director General of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Mrs U.H. Okwechime has reiterated the body’s commitment to comply with all environmental laws and legislations in the oil and gas industry.
Making the declaration recently at the 2nd phase workshop on the environmental clean up of Ogoni-land at the Rivers State University of Science & Technology, she also state the Agency’s resolve to partner with other agencies and organisations to achieve set goals.
Environmental laws is what any reputable organisation will indulge in order to ensure that the body carry out programmes to better the lives of it’s citizenry, “she stated.
Speaking during the sampling training programme for UNEP, the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Magnus Abe described the level of pollution in the state as alarming, noting that the clean-up of Ogoni-land was very dear to the heart of government and ensured the unified Nations envrionmental programme of government’s continuous support towards the on-going Environmental Assessment of Ogoni-land.
Hon. Abe, who represented the Permanent Secretary, Special Service Bureau, Mr. Sovens Okari appealed to the management of the Rivers State University of Science & Technology, (RSUST) and other stakeholders to sustain the existing collaboration with UNEP team, stressing that collaboration will lead to the total clean up of Ogoni-land.
In his remakrs, the Vice Chancellor of RSUST, Professor Barineme Fakae stated that the re-selection of the university as the training centre for the programme after the first one, was an indication that the institution is leaving up to its responsibility.
He, however, requested UNEP to domicile all aspects of the programmes in the university, assuring them of the institution’s continued collaboration in order to achieve set goals.
