RSG Won’t Sack Workers – Semenitari
Information and Communication Commissioner, Mrs Ibim Semenitari said government has no intention to sack workers or close down its agencies and parastatals under the on-going re-structuring exercise by the Ministry.
Mrs Semenitari stated this in a meeting with the leaders of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Service Employees (AUPCTRE) and Radio and Television Theatre Workers Union (RATTAWU), in Port Harcourt.
According to her, the present administration would continue to accord priority to its establishments, adding that, since the media is dynamic, the managements of the media establishments should strive to update and review their performance to meet the current realities in the profession to enhance productivity and profitability.
The Commissioner explained that she is poised to improve on the condition of the various media establishments by updating them to maximise their potentials, stressing that, the state belongs to all of us and as stakeholders we must endeavour to improve it.
Mrs Semenitari advised the union leaders to make their agencies strategic to the government, stating that, the media would die a natural death if it’s not profitable and their programmes dynamic.
Earlier, the Secretary of AUPCTRE, Comrade James Kogah, said government policies have shifted over time, appealing that the positions of Permanent Secretaries and Directors should not be politicised as that might cripple the system.
He commended the Commissioner for her efforts and appealed that a standard be set to enable workers perform their duties effectively.
