Earmarks Olympic Swimming Pool For Liberation Stadium
In preparation for the forthcoming National Sport Festival billed to be hosted by Rivers State, next year, the state government has expressed readiness to construct an Olympic size swimming pool, at the Port Harcourt Liberation Stadium Complex.
The commissioner for Sports in the State, Hon. Boma Iyaye made this known when he received a team of technical experts from Italy to assess the facilities and subsequent recommendation for immediate upgrading of those facilities that needs urgent attention.
According to Iyaye, the present administration led by governor Chubuike Rotimi Amaechi is poised to develop sports from grassroots.
“The state government is committed to providing good sporting facilities for training that will enable our athletes perform creditably during the NSF. The Sporting equipment that will be provided by government will outline the present administration and serve future generation.
The sports commissioner explained that the ministry of sports is focused and determined to establish policies that would sustain development in the sports environment.
Speaking shortly after the inspection, the leader of the team. Mr Graziani Mariano expressed joy over government preparedness to construct modern sports facilities for the festival.
