Union Leader Charges Members On Commitment
The Acting National President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees ( NULGE), Comrade Nankpak Miri Njomiri, has called on local government workers to be committed to duty as their main target on the sector.
Njomiri made the call while inaugurating the care-taker committee members of the Rivers State branch of NULGE , in Port Harcourt Wednesday.
He said the call became imperative in view of the task before the new caretaker members in the state.
The NULGE boss noted that the union had suffered some hardship as a result of bad leadership, but expressed hope that the Comrade Tobins Tamunotonye-led committee will restore the union to its right position.
According to him, the seven-man committee was saddled with the responsibility of conducting election in the next three or six months, adding that anything short of the arrangement amounted to unconstitutional act and a breach of law.
He noted that the target would only be achieved if members of the union could give their support to the new NULGE leadership in the state.
Also speaking, the Acting National Secretary of the union, Comrade Rasaq Lawal, assured the State Branch of NULGE of the national body’s assistance at all times.
Lawal, who spoke against sit-tight syndrome of some leaders, said that such must not be in order to accommodate new crop of leaders in the system.
The union’s national leaders stated that their action was warranted by the decision of the National Industrial Court Sitting in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, which was presided over by
Hon Justice Suleiman Galadim on July 11, 2019 that declared the Comrade Ibrahim Khaleel-led National Executive of the union terminated by effusion of time.
In his response, the Caretaker Chairman of NULGE , Rivers State Branch, Comrade Tobins Tamunotonye, who described the development as “fresh Air for Local Government workers in the State”, said that he will operate within the ambit of the law so as to deliver credibly.
