‘NDDC’s Challenges Daunting, Not Insurmountable’
The new Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC), Mr Nsima Ekere, has said that the management would tackle the enormous challenges confronting the commission, describing the challenges as daunting but not insurmountable.
Ekere, who spoke during a reception organised by Akwa Ibom indigenes in his honour at Akwa Ibom House in Abuja, after his inauguration, said his team was determined to robustly develop the nine constituent states of the Niger Delta region.
He noted that the NDDC was already rehabilitating roads across the region, including Akwa Ibom State, and promised to do more.
While expressing gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for giving him the opportunity to serve, he urged Akwa Ibom indigenes to continue to support the President.
Similarly, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Affairs (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, has lauded Buhari for upholding the right of Akwa Ibom State by appointing another indigene of the state to complete the state’s tenure after the removal of Bassey Dan-Abia.
Also speaking, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah, congratulated Ekere on his appointment, and thanked Buhari for giving another opportunity to Akwa Ibom which he urged the people of the state to take advantage of.
“We must thank him for giving us someone we desire and want,” he said, adding, “Akwa Ibom State is solidly behind Mr. President.”
A Board of Trustees’ member of All Progressives Congress,( APC), Atuekong Don Etiebet, lamented that poor management coupled with corruption had been the bane of NDDC over the years, and expressed the belief that things would change with Ekere’s appointment.
