The Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), yesteray said the remaining weeks to the 2015 elections is like an ‘Extra Time’ in a soccer match.
The politician called on party leaders, supporters and members to avoid mistakes that could cost the party the elections by remaining resilient as their patience would be tested in the days ahead.
Buhari stated this at the joint leaders’ meeting of the party held at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.
According to him, he, alongside leaders of the party, travelled the length and breadth of the country, and heard the cry of change, which had become common among Nigerians.
He noted that it was common knowledge that Nigeria was passing through trying times which was imposed on it by the bad Peoples Democratic Party administration.
Buhari said, “The imminent change in answer to the yearnings of our people has been delayed by the postponement of the February 14th, 2015 elections. Our patience and resilience will be tested in the days ahead. We must pass this test.
“In a time like this, which in football analogy can be referred to as Extra Time, we must avoid making costly mistakes. In the weeks ahead, I would like to implore you to remain true to the vision – to build a country that works for all of us and not just for the few.
“To rescue and stabilise our nation from the hands of plunderers, on this, I believe we all agreed.
“The important issue today is that we must use the next six weeks that have been imposed on us, to re-charge and re-focus on our goal. The goal is to win the elections now slated for March 28th and April 11th with a convincing majority.”
He maintained that the objective of an APC-led government was to build a great society that works for all, “a country where every child has an equal opportunity to get an education, where every young Nigerian who needs a job can find one. Where the sick are looked after and senior citizens are provided for”.
Meanwhile, the visit of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(rtd), to Chibok, was put off at the last minute yesterday due to the tight schedule and the crowd that opted to follow the former Head of State to the Borno State town.
No fewer than 270 girls from the Government Secondary School, Chibok, were abducted by Boko Haram fighters on April 14, 2014, from the school while preparing for their final WAEC examinations.
Director of Media and Publicity, APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Garba Shehu, confirmed yesterday that the general was scheduled to visit the parents of the abducted girls.
“He(Buhari) was scheduled to visit, but the enormity of the crowd (apart from the rally and a visit to the Shehu of Borno) made everything impossible. A date for Chibok is under consideration,” Shehu said.
