…Accused Of Using Mercenaries
The Government House Football Team, winner of this year’s Rivers State Civil Service Football competition has been accused of cheating their way to victory by fielding ineligible player in their matches.
Coach of the Ministry of Special Duties team that lost to Government House team in the final yesterday alleged that their conquerors used mercenaries. He mentioned Government House players with jersey numbers 8 and 2 as non civil servants recruited from Diobu and wondered why the organizers were not strict in enforcing identification by identity cards in course of the match.
However, the Head of Service, Barrister Samuel LongJohn noted the report of use of ineligible players in the competition and promised that the issue would be properly investigated and defaulters sanctioned accordingly.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Special Duties has been banned for two editions of the competition for acts of indiscipline, especially, unruly behaviours during the medal presentation ceremony at the Liberation Stadium, yesterday.
It was also alleged that some of their players stormed and attacked the referees in the dressing room, accusing them of bias in the final match.
