The new offer, which is available for trips to the United Kingdom and select destinations in Europe and North America to allow customers the unique opportunity to purchase a ticket for the companion for just $50.
Known as the companion fare special, the new promo comes barely a month after its “Quick Hop” offer for its World Traveler plus and club world customers travelling to London and other European destinations.
According to the airline, British Airways customers travelling to London and other destinations in UK, Europe and North America from Lagos and Abuja on the World Traveller (Economy) class can now extend to their companion or loves ones the opportunity to experience the unparallel service within the luxurious ambience of British Airways cabin for just $50.
Announcing the new promo, British Airways country commercial manager for Nigeria, Mr Kola Olayinka, stated that with the offer which is available for sale between May 20 and June 20, 2013, the airline is promoting the spirit of companionship among its customers this summer.
He explained that the customer pays the current fare but pays only $50 for his or her companion in the flight.
Mr Olayinka said experience shows that British Airways has realized the importance of companionship while travelling.
“Whether you are flying in World Traveller; World Traveller Plus or Club World, it’s always nice to have a familiar face beside you because trips are just more fun when you have company,” he stated.
He further explained, “with this offer, we are telling our customers to take a companion or loved ones along on their next trip and pay just $50 for their ticket. Buy your tickets together and fly together to and from UK, Europe or North America”.
The manager hinted that outbound travel for the offer runs from May 20 till July 14, 2013, when all fares are exclusive of all surcharges and taxes and subject to availability.
Olayinka said tactical offers enabled the airline to encourage travel when there were seats available, but advised customers to book quickly as the special fares were likely to be popular.
He stated that the discounted fares still comes with all the benefits of flying with a full-service carrier that provides inclusive fare, a high free baggage allowance on all flights, free seat selection within 24 hours of departure.
“We make no charge for bookings by debit cared and we fly to mainstream airports close to the destination you want” Olayinka declared.

SMEs Dev: Firms Launch N100m Loan Scheme
The facility will be disbursed through participating Microfinance Institutions (MFIs), which will in turn extend the loans to their customers, particularly SMEs, as they directly interface with businesses at the grassroots level.
The Executive Director of COMCIN, Mr. Micheal Ogbaa who represented the Chairman, Dr. Iredele Oyedele (FCA, FCCA), said the initiative is designed to strengthen micro-lending institutions and expand access to finance for grassroots entrepreneurs, particularly women and youths in the informal sector.
Ogbaa explained that COMCIN does not lend directly to individuals but works through its network of microfinance and cooperative institutions, which in turn provide loans to end users.
“We came together to advocate for the microfinance ecosystem. Commercial banks often exclude people at the grassroots, but our members are positioned to reach them. This facility will empower them to do more,” he said.
He noted that the loan scheme offers low interest rates and flexible repayment plans, making it more accessible to small business owners.
According to him, about 90 percent of beneficiaries are expected to be women, who play a key role in sustaining families and driving economic activities at the local level.
“Our focus is on traders, service providers, and players in the informal sector. These are the real movers of the economy. By supporting them, we are strengthening families and contributing to national development,” he added.
Ogbaa disclosed that eligible SMEs with proven integrity and business track records could access up to N5 million each through participating micro-lending institutions. The rollout has commenced in Lagos and will extend to Abuja, Enugu, and other regions, including the South-West, South-East, and North-East.
He said 12 micro-lending institutions have already benefited from the scheme, while 85 applications are currently being processed under the pilot phase.
“Our target is to reach at least 100,000 SMEs nationwide. We are building a platform that connects funding partners with credible micro-lending institutions, creating a reliable channel for financial inclusion,” Ogbaa said.
He added that COMCIN is also working to attract larger funding pools from development finance institutions and private investors, noting that successful implementation of the pilot phase would boost confidence and unlock more capital for SMEs.
“We have seen encouraging testimonies from early beneficiaries. As we demonstrate transparency and efficiency, more institutions will be willing to channel funds through us,” he said.
